A sect is a religious group, which became separated from the main religious trend. As a rule, the term “sect” bears a negative connotation, although it is quite often used in Buddhism and Hinduism meaning separate movements, thus being the synonym to the term “school”.
The Church in our country is separated from the state and the law "On freedom of religion" allows everyone to choose religious trends freely or even to create one.
In recent years there have been a lot of information about the so-called modern sects, often called "totalitarian", "destructive religious organizations", which are aimed at enriching the leaders. It is difficult to say whether the modern sects are totalitarian or their anti-advertising is part of the struggle with their “religious competitors”.
